Wow.

It’s just gone midnight and I’m sitting here monitoring the Stephen Nolan programme on 5 live waiting for Rev. Stephen Lowe to appear. We put ‘The Bishop’ on air regularly on a Sunday from his home in Wales where he reviews the next day’s newspapers.

It’s been a fairly hectic few weeks since learning of the nomination for the Radio Academy Technical Innovation award. Today (Monday) is the day that the winner will be announced.

This-evening I’ve been at the Radio Today ‘pre-festival’ social at MediaCity:UK in Salford. I had a good chat with Stuart Clarkson from Radio Today and our ‘rivals’ from PSquared.

PSquared are the company behind the Myriad playout system and I’ve seen them grow for over 10 years. I’ve worked fairly closely with them on various projects and David Boulton of their team is a good friend. It’s fun therefore to be up against them for today’s award.

In the past few weeks I’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes preparing IP DTL Free for launch. It’s a cut-down version of the technology which is being used for Stephen Lowe right now. I’ve also been filming and editing the video for the award entry.

IP DTL Free will allow broadcasters on a limited budget to do things that never before have been possible. An outside broadcast from anywhere with an internet connection will be a walk in the park. I find this very exciting.

It’s another half-hour before the end of the Stephen Nolan show when I can go to sleep. In that time I must prepare tomorrow’s press releases – win or lose – and arrange my snazzy outfit.

Wish us luck.
